Atlanta, Georgia-based rock band Kickin Valentina—featuring lead vocalist D.K. Revelle, guitarist Heber Pampillon, bassist Chris Taylor, and drummer Jimmy Berdine—has released a video for their latest single, "The Gotaways." The track is set to appear on their upcoming album, Raw Traxs, B-Sides & Bootlegs, which will be available later this year via Mighty Music.
In the caption for the YouTube video, the band shared:
"This video isn’t anything fancy, but we wanted to showcase some of our favorite tour memories from the past few years. ‘The Gotaways’ is a song about life on the road, and these photos capture everything we love about touring."
In a review of Kickin Valentina’s previous album, Star Spangled Fist Fight, Sleaze Roxx praised the record, noting how it builds upon the foundation laid by The Revenge of Rock:
*"Overall, Star Spangled Fist Fight continues in the same vein as The Revenge of Rock, though with a slightly less aggressive edge. This time around, the focus leans more toward themes of troubled relationships rather than outright fury. But don’t expect a power ballad like Dokken’s ‘Alone Again’—instead, you get lyrics like: ‘It’s really simple being badass as hell, so put your middle finger high in the air, here’s to the ones who can kiss my ass, I always knew you were a snake in the grass.’ Boom! That sums it up pretty well.
Time will tell if I revisit Star Spangled Fist Fight as much as The Revenge of Rock, but for now, the signed CD proudly hangs on my wall alongside autographed albums from Alice Cooper, Dirty Penny, Joe Lynn Turner, Dokken, Great White, Tesla, Tom Keifer, Warrant, Jackyl, and even Jesse ‘The Body’ Ventura… One of these may stand out, but if you know me, they all fit!"*
For those unfamiliar with Kickin Valentina, Sleaze Roxx suggests that Star Spangled Fist Fight is a great entry point. The album combines the raw energy of their earlier work, featuring former vocalist Joe Edwards, with the melodic songwriting that has defined their more recent releases. While not as drastic a transition as Van Halen swapping David Lee Roth for Sammy Hagar, the evolution is noticeable. And for those wondering—yes, the reviewer is more of a Sammy guy… but that’s another debate entirely!
